Initially created as a travel route to make the trip between the Westmont Borough and downtown easier, the Johnstown Inclined Plane still serves as a time-saving route for commuters but also acts as a fun, scenic ride for visitors. The steepest vehicular incline in the world, this incline is only 896.5 feet long but rises a startling 502.2 feet. At the top of the incline, an observation deck and visitor center help explain the importance of this special shortcut in Johnstown. The incline's base is just west of downtown, located a few blocks south of Point Stadium.
