The Johnstown Flood Museum focuses upon the devastation caused by the breaking of the South Fork dam on May 31, 1889. Learn about the reasons for the dam's weakening and breaking, see a map of the path through which the resultant flood tore and even images of Johnstown as it looked after the water passed. Every hour, a 26-minute film about the flood is shown, and while waiting for the film to begin, visitors can see items used and recovered by rescue crews. Sitting just south of the river, the museum is only a short walk away from both the riverfront and the local branch of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
